Upcycle Patchwork Chairs

PROCESS

CHAPTER ONE

It all started when my girlfriend found two old chairs in the trash. They were in very poor condition — wet, burned with cigarettes, and slightly moldy. We took them apart, threw out the foam and debris. All that remained was the bare frame.

"We had a dozen hopeless backpacks, a dozen artillery shell straps, and two old chairs. - The perfect starter kit for a successful upcycle."

For a long time I wanted to make something for myself and something other than clothes. And on top of that, I had a bunch of old backpacks lying around for a long time, which were too bulky and heavy to transform them into clothes. And the tapes from the artillery shells were given to me by my client Dmytro and he said "do whatever you want with them".

I cut it all into a large number of scraps and put them back together into one canvas.

CHAPTER TWO. PROCESSING AND ASSEMBLY

I decided to sew zigzag on my first singer 403a machine. The wood was sanded from the remains of glue and foam, and it was treated with a special agent against mold. I cut out the shape and glued the new foam, removed the patterns from the old covers, cut out new ones from the fabric and sewed them together with Demyan.

When they started to tighten the covers, I was faced with the fact that the stapler does not pierce the wood, and the raw edges stick out as planned. Which upsets the idealist in me, but overall I'm happy with the result.

RESULT

In total, the whole process took about a week, which is quite a lot, considering how much I could have done in that time. But it felt like a real vacation, it reminded me why I love what I do and helped me get out of the routine a little.
And now I have cool chairs in the workshop.
